De Guzman, Min claim South Australian Junior Masters crowns

Brisbane’s Hennessy De Guzman fired a brilliant closing round as Yisoo Min finished as the only player under par to claim the boys and girls South Australian Junior Masters titles respectively at Royal Adelaide Golf Club.

De Guzman and Min were both the only players in their respective fields to finish under par across 54 holes of strokeplay, De Guzman closing with a round 5-under 67 to finish 2-under for the tournament, while Min finished at 1-under.

Despite a broken driver late in the round, De Guzman from Pacific Golf Club produced the lowest round of the tournament to secure his biggest win yet.

“I don’t think it fully sunk in until I got the award and did my speech, but it feels really good,” De Guzman said.

From the 14th hole, his drives weren’t coming off the face as they usually would, finally noticing that his driver was broken on the 17th tee.

“I felt like I hit it well, but it just went up 60 metres in the air and only flew 160 metres,” he said.

“I was so confused, then I looked at the face and there was a crack in it.”

The 15-year-old held off recent South Australian Junior Amateur champion Ollie Marsh, with Marsh finishing 1-over alongside Alan Xin and Nate Johnson.
